Over the years I have  found that practising gratitude has played an important part in finding true happiness and I can guarantee that adopting gratitude as a daily practice will lead to decreased stress levels, happier moods and better physical and mental health.

I practice gratitude every day by always trying to find something to be grateful for. There are so many ways you can practice gratitude from keeping a gratitude journal or making a gratitude board to saying thank you for all the things you take for granted.

During  a trip I took to South Africa on a humanitarian visit to a school where a new toilet block had been built. There was no running water to flush the toilets and no hand washing facilities. We were told that there was no direct supply of water to the school and the children walked up to 10 kilometers carrying water with them in plastic containers from the river, which  was then placed in a water tank for cooking and drinking purposes.

From that day on I have included being grateful for running water in my daily gratitude list.

There is a proverb in Arabic that reads

I had no shoes and I grumbled until I saw a man with no feet.

I know that there are time when it’s not easy to be grateful all the time, as life can be a challenge, but when we are grateful we raise our frequencies by focusing on the positive.

The 21/90 Rule

The 21/90 rule states that it takes 21days to make a habit and 90 days to make it a permanent lifestyle change so give it a try by committing to gratitude for 21 days and let me know just how much happier your days become.

Be the change you want to see in the world by making gratitude a part of each day. If we all practice gratitude regularly the world would be a better place
